Exposition: Mermaids have prevailed to modern day, their society changing and growing much like the humans have along the years, however they are becoming sick and their numbers are dying due to the high amount of waste that is introduced into the ocean.
Inciting Incident: The merfolk are angry and want to take revenge for their lost sea life and people, returning to their old ways of sinking ships and drowning humans.
Naia is a young mermaid who takes it up to herself to do something to help her people in a way she sees more peaceful, deciding to approach the humans directly to attempt to come to terms with them.
Conflict: Naia is not welcomed like she had hoped, instead of peaceful negotiation she gets captured and put in a government facility.
Crisis: She realizes what her capture could mean for her people, desperately wnting to warn them and possibly own up to her stupid plan. She is trapped in a tank, and her only way out is convincing one of the scientists to help her escape for the greater good.
Resolution: Unwilling to return home as a failure, Naia still makes herself known to the world and finally gets the attention of major power holders in the world who are willing to offer the merfolk protection
