Story Pitch
Exposition:
- For as long he could remember Aspen had stayed in the cave, forbidden to leave by his Mother Amaranth's only rule: to never enter the Forest.
Inciting Incident:
- One fateful day as he stared off into the brush, a passerby caught his eye. With his curiosity piqued, and his mother away from home he leaves the cave for the first time and follows the passerby.
Conflict:
- Aspen ends up in a city full of other sentient plant beings much like himself and over time befriends the passerby from the forest. After some time, Aspen reveals who his mother is and is then informed of her banishment and her ability to drain the lifeforce of other beings. Following the discovery of his origins, Aspen is imprisoned for his connection to Amaranth.
Crisis
- When Amaranth returns home, she discovers Aspen is missing and discovers evidence of someone from the city and assumes her son was taken. Enraged, Amaranth descends upon the city, seeking to drain the life of as many citizens as possible while Aspen is locked away.
Resolution
- Upon hearing of the events occurring in the town, Aspen pleads to be let out. His friend breaks him out of prison and he rushes out to stop his mother. After noticing the terrible damage she caused, he questions his mother and Amaranth reveals her story. However, Amaranth is imprisoned for her crimes against the city and Aspen is allowed to live free.
