Claudia Fung: Story Pitch and Research

Main Story: ‘INSOMNIAN’ (inspired by ‘Pied Piper of Hamelin’) 

Theme: Learning to face and live with your fear. 

Exposition: This take place in a city where people take pills to got rid of their nightmare because dreams were the only place where their desires could happen. Their dreams, whether they were good or bad, secretly turned into rats and sneaked around the city in night time as a way to send their love to their loved ones. 

Inciting-Incident: One day, the dream thief appeared and began to hunt down people’s dreams, by using a flute that could play magical music to attract rats to follow him and ultimately caged them because the thief struggled from insomnia himself. 

Conflict: People began to be stuck with insomnia because the dreams were deprived by the thief, they have lost their meanings to live. 

Crisis: People stop taking the pills and here comes their nightmare, the nightmare turned into rat and the thief was haunted by the hallucination of terror. 

Resolution: Dreams were send back to the people and they finally learnt to cope with their nightmares.

Backup story #1

Exposition: The story is taken place in a developing city.

Inciting-Incident: As the city began to grow the more the streets are being blocked by the sunlight, the shade leads to the appearance of the void. The city is slowly corroded by the void. 

Conflict: People are eaten by the void creatures. 

Crisis: The protagonist make use of the reflection of light to eliminate the void creature. 

Resolution: People gained their knowledge there is always a downside to the goods, just like to when there is sun, there is shades. The only way to cope with the change is to be awareness of the consequences that is brought along with the change. 


Theme: There are always two sides to a subject. 

Backup story #2

Exposition : The monster has been blocking the entrance to the village from the villagers. 

Inciting-Incident: During mid-autumn festival, a villager accidentally dropped the mooncakes, the monster approaches but did not attack the village. The villager ended up discover the fact that the monster likes to have mooncakes. 

Conflict: The villager began to feed the tigers with mooncakes so that they can re-enter the village. Nevertheless, as time goes on, there is a deficient number of ingredients to product more mooncakes. The monster goes furious once again the villagers again as the monster is craving for food. 

Crisis: The villagers decided to add nuts as an additional ingredients, they think the large amount of nuts being put to the mooncakes are enough to break the monster’s teeth, or chocked by the mooncakes when given a number a mooncakes all at once after starving for a couple of days. 

Resolution: The villagers successfully got rid of the monster, the mooncakes became a festive food as the specialty of the village, the legend also attracts people to 


Theme: Problems can only be fully solved with a long tern solution, the monster was too eager for short term benefits and ended up killing itself.
